Kindergarten Class Lists will be posted on Friday, August 17 by 9:00 a.m.

Your child must take the state assessment in order to be placed in a class. If you have NOT scheduled an assessment appointment, please contact the front office as soon as possible.

Safe Routing UPDATE to 2nd grade side of the building:

I received some feedback and questions about the 2nd grade side of the building about drop-off and pick-up of students. In the past, this has been a very busy area. However, we are willing to try this. Since the posted sign in this area says “No Parking – Loading Zone”, we are going to allow drop-off / pick-up along the 2nd grade side of the building.
 
We need parents to please pay close attention to the following:
 
1 – Students should NOT be on the grass area. Students should put their backpack by the appropriate door (2nd grade students) and go directly to the back playground until the first bell rings.
 
2 – Parents can pull up to the curb, drop off their child, (always give a hug and kiss goodbye first), and move on. Nobody should be parking and staying in this area. You should also never park your car and get out. This should be a quick drop-off / pick-up only.
 
3 – Parents should not park on the opposite side of the road and wave a child over. If you choose to park on the opposite side of the road, I would rather you get out of your vehicle and walk with your child across the street.
 
4 – You are welcome to park in this area after school, as long as you quickly move on as soon as your child is safely in your vehicle.
 
5 – Parents should not make a U-turn in front of the gate. You should go around the block after you drop-off or pick-up your child.

Teacher Presentation (individual classrooms)
*Teachers will be introducing themselves to students and parents. There are 2 separate teacher presentations during this time, so you do not have to try to get to all teachers during this time. 
Please note this is NOT a time for individual meetings with your child’s teacher. If you have specific concerns, you will need to meet with the teacher at a separate time.

2:30 – 2:50 p.m. 
Schoolwide Video Presentation
(Parents and students remain in the classroom they are currently in to watch this.)
*This will be introductory information about our principal (Mrs. Eggleston), our counselor (Mr. Coulter), PTA, Title I, free/reduced lunches, STEM, our school resource officer, etc. This video is meant to give all of our parents and students a good overview of the school and present information about the first day of school.

3:00 – 3:15 p.m. 
Second Teacher Presentation (individual classrooms)
*If you have two or more children at the school, this is your opportunity to go visit another teacher. Classroom teachers will be repeating what they did at the first session today.

3:15 – 3:30 p.m. 
Final questions / wrap up / PTA information, etc.

UPDATE!
Instead of mailing a letter home, we are going to send out an email next week with information about Kindergarten and how to sign up for a testing time online. This email will go to parents of Kindergarten students only. This ONLY applies to Kindergarten students.

If you do NOT receive an email by Wednesday, August 1st, please email Principal Eggleston at jennifer.eggleston@washk12.org.

Information about Kindergarten:
Please come to the Back to School Open House on August 10th from 2:00-3:30 pm. You will not know your child’s specific teacher at this time, but you will have an opportunity to meet all 3 Kindergarten teachers and get information about Kindergarten in general.

Your child will NOT be assigned a class until after s/he has taken the state assessment. These assessments are given the week of August 13th. You should receive a letter in the mail by the first week of August giving you an assigned day and time to bring your child. If you do not receive this letter by August 6th, please contact the office and we can schedule for you.

The first day of Kindergarten is Monday, August 20th. More information about this should also be included in the letter you will receive.

If you have not registered your student, please come to the school on or after August 2nd. Our secretaries will be back to school full-time and will be in the office from at least 9:00 – 3:00 pm each day. Please remember to bring your child’s birth certificate and immunization record with you. Please note that if you have not registered, you will not be receiving a letter in the mail. You will receive your assigned day and time for testing as you register.
